| 109 of 111 people found the following review helpful  Couldn't have been easier, By This review is from: KitchenAid SNPA Pasta Maker Plates for Food Grinder Attachment for Stand Mixers (Kitchen) I just made my first batch of spaghetti with this attachment and after having read the horror stories here and the warnings in the Kitchenaid guide that it might require several batches to get it right, I was stunned at how easy and painless it proved to be. The spaghetti came out quite nice, albeit a little curled on the ends when it first came out. My biggest dread was dealing with the fresh product sticking together, but it came out essentially dry to the touch and didnt stick at all. In fact, I didnt even bother laying it out in a single row, just separated it a little before dropping into the pot. If I were to guess, I think the key to my painless experience was letting it rest in the fridge for 30 minutes wrapped tightly in plastic. I know there's alot of complex flour chemistry going on in that resting period. Furthermore, if you are wondering, the fresh pasta was far tastier than the dry stuff. I can't wait to toss it with some fresh sauce next summer. But, since I already had the mixer and the food grinder, I went ahead and got this. I agree with the other users that some of the attachments (spaghetti, thinner noodles) make the pasta tend to stick together. More of a problem might be that you really have to tweak the recipe a bit to get a good consistency. I prefer this for lasagne or fettucini noodles myself. It is functional. I would not want to do a large amount of pasta in this at one sitting because I am afraid it would burn out the motor (upon doing a full recipe for the first time, smoke emanated from my mixer. A call to Kitchen Aid said this was probably normal, as my mixer wasn't that old and oil was burning off, but I never did a full recipe again). I would really love to instead get the rolling pasta plate attachment for the Kitchen Aid, but at (price) it's a bit too much of an investment to me. So when I received the Professional 5 for a gift, I wanted to get the pasta attachment to make it easier on my hands. Was I wrong. Since it was their equipment, I used their recipe. I put the flat noodle plate in and 40 minutes later, I still did not have decent noodles. The holes in the plate are too narrow for the dough to pass through without overtaxing the motor on the mixer. It got very hot. I did not buy the pasta maker to ruin my mixer.I brought out my Marcato and had all the noodles drying in less than 10 minutes. The pasta maker is not worth the cost of postage. |
