1.0 out of 5 stars This does not work, August 21, 2007

This product does not work. I eat a lot of pasta and could not wait to buy it. It didn't work even when I tried changing the cooking times and temperature. It also didn't work with vegetables either. it should be taken of the market. I have a microwave rice cooker that works much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprised by the bad reviews, November 21, 2010
This review is from: Tristar Pasta Express "As Seen on TV" - PEX
I was on-line looking for a recipe to try fresh artichokes in my Pasta Express and came across the bad reviews here and was surprised. Mine has a neoprene sleeve on the outside - wetsuit-type material w/ velcro closure; I wonder if that is the difference? I've had very good results and been pleased. I cook whole-grain pasta, which usually takes a bit longer, but it has always come out great -- al dente & still very hot (in contrast to some of the other comments which said their pasta had cooled off). This is why I wondered if they used the neoprene cover. Anyway, I've had great results w/ linguine, angel hair, spaghetti & rotinni. I will continue to use it, as it is easy and saves clean-up time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money, October 10, 2006
By
This review is from: Tristar Pasta Express "As Seen on TV" - PEX
Pasta Express is a total waste of money. I bought two one for my daughter and one for myself. Neither one of us has had any luck with it. The pasta does not cook in the length of time it says, you can leave it longer, but by then the water has cooled off, so it is not cooking anyway. I have had two meals competely ruined trying to cook pasta with Pasta Express. It is nothing more a gimmick to make someone rich. I threw my in the trash just before going to the store to by more pasta to cook on the stove right in the middle of cooking a meal. Total Junk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joyful Spirals? Sure!, October 10, 2010

This review is from: Benriner Cook Helper Slicer (Kitchen)
I purchased the Benriner Cook Helper for making raw pasta from squash and zucchini. After researching other spiral slicers (including the two more popular brands: Joyce Chen 51-0662 Saladacco Spiral Slicer, White, World Cuisine A4982799 Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer), I ran across a forum on a cooking website where many people swore by the Benriner and had purchased it to replace the two aforementioned brands. I'm glad I found that forum, because it led me to search for the Benriner on Amazon.

First, the Benriner is sturdy, despite the fact that it's plastic. I've cranked on it pretty ruthlessly, and I'm sure it will hold up to years of use. It does a good job... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Works like a charm!, August 20, 2005

My wife wanted to be able to make spaghetti-thin strands of carrot, beet and other vegetables, to add to salads and soups. This thing fits the bill perfectly, and works like a charm. The only caution is that it is difficult to figure out how to use it from the instructions, which are in Japanese with a hit-and-miss (and sometimes humorous) English translation. Once I got it working, though, it was fast and easy to shred and slice vegetables, and fast and easy to clean. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally A Truly Reliable Spiral Slicer!, April 14, 2007
By
Charw (Massachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Benriner Cook Helper Slicer (Kitchen)
The Benriner Cook's Helper originated in Japan and aren't we glad that its made its way to the US! A very reliable spiral slicer offering true versatility and durability. Made of ABS and Nylon reinforced resin, this spiral slicer is here to stay! Just crank and churn with the option of cutting continuous strings, strips or curly strands with four different blades to choose from (1) Flat edged blade, and (3) Tooth edged blades (Coarse, Medium and Fine) This is all you'll need to get you're creative juices flowing. You can create beautiful salads, elegant garnishes and main courses, if you're a Raw Foodist. The famous Spaghetti type strands that all raw food diets long for, using yellow squash and Zucchini turn into beautiful replicas of their wheat counterparts. Want to experiment with super thin slices of cucumbers, potatoes, carrots, bell pepper and onions etc; be my guest because you can't go wrong! Everything turns out beautifully every single time. Cleaning is also a snap,... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent cookbook, February 9, 2003
By
This review is from: Pasta: William Sonoma Collection (Hardcover)
When I first received this book I pretty much read it from cover to cover. It's a delight. Each recipe has a corresponding full-page photo. Further, a pertinent, and what I found to be enlightening, piece of information is included as a sidenote with each recipe. I wrote down 11 recipes that I plan to try -- more typically two, maybe three, is the number of recipes that I will make from any one cookbook. Anyhow, I have made the bolognese sauce w/ fresh egg pasta and it was excellent. The entire family loved it! The sections are well thought out and can be used as a guide to what you need. Want something fast? Quick Suppers. Something tried & true? the Classics. There were several terrific sounding recipes under Elegant Entertaining. Great to look at, fun to read, and well-chosen recipes. It's a keeper.

This book has great pasta recipes. The fettuccine alfredo is too good for words. This book keeps in line with the series -- well-written recipes, beautiful photos of every dish.

The pasta basics section has good advice on fresh pasta. I wish it would have included info on making it with a food processor. I think that's covered in the new Mastering series from WS, which is billed as more technique than recipe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Recipes and Basic Info...., March 19, 2006
By
This review is from: Pasta: William Sonoma Collection (Hardcover)
This is an excellent book for the home chef. It has recipes that even the most timid beginner can sucessfuly (and effortlessly) complete.

It is beautifully photographed. The recipes are concise and easy to follow.

I love the informative sidenotes that accompany each recipe. A beginning cook can learn a lot from reading them.

I recommend this book for all cooks.
